Vision

Tshwane Community Learning Centre is committed to providing an education and training service to the surrounding communities in their endeavour to attain human dignity through economic self-sufficiency.


Mission

In support of our vision, programmes and services covering the fields of education, early learning, care for children at risk, homes for destitute children, primary health care, skills training and income generation are being developed.

Programmes

 The programmes, with their current status in brackets, are as follows:

  • Early Learning Centre for 100 children, 3-4 years of age, Grade 00  (Established 1994; 40 toddlers)
  • Pre-primary school for 75 children, 5 years of age, Grade R (Est. 1994; 50 children)
  • Junior/Middle School for 675 learners, General Education Phase, Grade 1-9 (Est. 1992; 300 learners)
  • Senior School for 250 students, Further Education and Training Phase, Grade 10-12 (Est. 1994; 90 students)
  • Tuition Fees Support for 100 children at risk (Est. 2004; beneficiaries: 70 needy children)
  • Children's Homes for 60 destitute children (Est. 1996; Two homes with a capacity of 10 children is presently operational)
  • Skills Training Centre (One pilot project completed for 40 unemployed unskilled adults)
  • Further training: vocational (Planning phase)
  • Small scale production units (Planning phase)
  • Farming for Income Generation (Planning phase)
  • Recreational areas (Sites allocated; planning phase) 

History

Location

Tshwane Community Learning Centre is situated 30 km North of Pretoria,  South Africa, in the proximity of an estimated 2 million previously disadvantaged people living in the towhships of Soshanguve, Mabopane, Garankuwa, Themba and Makapanstad.

Governance

TCLC is a state registered Section 21 company (non profit) governed by a Board of Directors representing the communities we serve.  The main responsibilities of the Board of Directors are:

  • Guardians of the vision
  • Legal owners of all physical assets
  • Oversight and control
  • Macro planning for facilities and programs
  • Networking and fundraising.

Accountability

TCLC with its different departments, is accountable to its stakeholder, to the State Departments which hold their various registrations, to the state registered auditing firm controlling TCLC accounting practices, to UMalusi, the state's quality control body, to the state inspectors of health, electricity and safety, and to its donors.

Community Interest

No programme or service is planned or designed without the ongoing involvement of community members concerned.
